Anyone who knows me knows that I love Dancing With the Stars. (Okay that may not actually be a true statement, but now you know. I love it.) Plus, it’s perfect because when the Bachelor ends, DWTS starts again, and then the Bachelorette, etc. etc. There’s only a few months out of the year I’m not watching ABC. It sounds like I’m glued to the TV I’m sure, but to be honest, I don’t have time for….. really any other shows. I also don’t have Netflix, Hulu Plus, Apple TV or even basic cable at the moment. I already know I’m supposed to have watched and loved Grey’s Anatomy, Parenthood, This is Us, and loads of others. Haven’t seen an episode. I mean, I don’t even have time for New Girl anymore!
But I digress. Now that Bachelor Nick found love (I predict it doesn’t last), DWTS started again last week and I was reminded once again of what the human body is capable of looking like and it. is. phenomenal. I mean can we talk about Sharna for one?! (Oh yes, I meant the girls’ bodies.)
I was so distracted by her abs during this segment that I didn’t even notice her face! Every season I am motivated by the girls on this show. Granted, they spend 8+ hours a day doing high intensity routines, I realize this. But it was enough to get me off my lazy butt today and do a workout.
Actually I am going to stop right there and address the negative talk. I’m not lazy. I’m exhausted. I work full-time and raise a kid full-time and I don’t stop going from 7 AM to 9:30 PM and I don’t have it in me to work out at that point. All I want to do is sit down and be brain-dead. My real hurdle is, as it is I’m sure with many mothers, working and SAH alike, how to do those things and still have the energy to work out. Mornings would seem to be the best/only option, but one big issue with that one- I am not, never have been and likely never will be a morning person. I set three alarms to get up in the morning and a fourth to tell me when it’s time to leave and I’m still late to everything. I’m not proud of it, I don’t like it, and I’m always working on it, but that has been my reality. The snooze button and I are almost as good of friends as my bed and I are.
My second big problem is- I hate working out at home! I don’t have the space, or the equipment, and what I really need is mirrors because for all I know I’m doing everything wrong. So I’m not a fan. Obviously these are things that can be fixed and that I probably just need to deal with since going to the gym is not an option for me at this stage of life.
So today, because it was a day off work and because DWTS, obvi, I did a partial BBG workout from Kayla Itsines’ program. Meaning, I did each circuit ONCE, not repeatedly for the whole 7 minutes each she recommends -twice-, and to give you an idea of how in-shape I am, I haven’t been able to walk down the stairs the entire day since. But you gotta start somewhere. I’m looking for suggestions, can anyone tell me what they do to make home workouts easier/more fun? What time of day do you work out? What equipment do you own? What workouts do you do?
Help me out guys- gimme what you got. I’m open to ideas!
P.S. If you’re looking for fitness inspiration I’ve really loved following @mysweatlife on Instagram. I don’t know her but I want to! She is down-to-earth, genuine, and seems like she is truly not just here to show off her body but to actually motivate and inspire. Believe it or not I’m not getting paid for this endorsement. Just a fangirl.
