Trudy, or better known in our home, TrudyLou has amazing long, thick, slightly curly hair. She did go through that funky hair loss stage when she was around 5 months and had an awesome comb over as her new hair was growing in but now we are 2 years old with hair almost to our ‘bummie’ and its crazy how much time needs to go into this little one!
There are two options with a toddler who needs to have their hair done on a regular basis. I bathe her at night, then blow dry, round brush and put her to bed knowing in the morning I’ll have to basically re-do her hair and actually style it(braids or pony tails). OR we bathe in the morning and amongst all the rushing around of getting myself ready plus 2 other boys, I can try and style up a cute braid or two and call it good! There’s not really a perfect solution when it comes to a toddler, am I right???!!
Here is how our little princess gets spoiled around here… First off, when I even mention that I need to brush her hair she immediately asks for my phone! Hahah!! I’ve trained her well! The next item she usually asks me for is a treat. Hair dos and fruit snacks go hand in hand, DUH!
After bath time I take her into my bathroom and have her sit on my sink counter, with her feet in the sink. At first, yes she played with the water but I quickly distracted her from that with my IPad.
Here we are fresh out of the bath with a tangled mess. She already is spoiled when it comes to her hair because I use my salon bought products on her as well. A serum to help with the heat damage of a blowdryer and to help seal in her ends since its so dry in Colorado and a MUST HAVE for any toddler girl, a detangle spray. I have found this helps me more than anything and I’m like 30… detangle spray is for all ages!
I brush it out, blow dry it and then go through with a round brush to… well just because it looks smoother and less frizzy when we’re all done. I am no professional when it comes to hair. This is what I do to my own, so I might as well do it to her! I definitely don’t blast her hair with heat, I keep it on a warm/cool temp and I rarely use a curling iron or flat iron on her. Notice how she has that phone to keep her happy this whole time! I love this little girl no matter how many tangles, tears, braids, or treats we go through. She is always worth it and even if I don’t have myself all put together at least she is!!
